‘I started here in October 2023 after working as a team leader at another family-owned company. Assembling copper and fibre-optic cables was something I was totally unfamiliar with. The diversity of products is huge. There is no mass production here. Because MCAP is a relatively small family business, that also means a great diversity of work for me and my colleague Patrick.’
Diversity of activities
‘Thus, our work consists of logistics operations, such as checking and registering incoming goods, as well as order picking of required parts, cutting cables to length, and stock management. To improve stock management even further, I am given every freedom to optimise warehouse processes. This of course also further optimises the lead times of cable assemblies, which in turn benefits our customers.’
Material knowledge
‘At first, of course, I didn't know the materials used here. But as I like to learn what everything is and what it is for, Martin was happy to explain it to me. Gaining material knowledge also gave me a good sense of how certain parts or cables should be treated.’
Men in women's company
‘With all those ladies in production, MCAP is mainly a women's company. I had to get used to that. We men do have a certain kind of humour, which is not always very clever among all those women. Fortunately, I have quite a lot of people skills and know how to adapt well. This quality also helps me with one of my hobbies: playing poker. I seem to be able to read very well whether someone is bluffing or not. As a result, I have already won several tournaments. I also like to hit a ball on the padel court, go to handball with my son and you can find me at every match in the NAC stadium.’
Involved and helpful
‘Despite working hard here, there is a relaxed atmosphere here at MCAP. The cooperation with my colleague Patrick is perfect. We have a good interaction with each other, because what one doesn't like, the other enjoys doing. Furthermore, the owners Martin, Corina and Niels are very involved and helpful when private circumstances are not quite up to scratch. I have experienced that in the time I have worked here, and I appreciate that a lot.’
