‘I was trained to take care of animals, for example in zoos, but there was no work to be found there. When MCAP was looking for someone in production, the employment agency introduced me there. After an interview with Corina van Aperloo and a guided tour, I was allowed to join in for a day. I then started working there first for six months through the agency, before joining MCAP directly.’

Accessible and personal

‘We have a super nice team. It is very accessible and personal here, and if necessary you can knock on anyone's door. Then they make time for you, and I really like that. You're not a number here, and over coffee we even just sit at the table with the boss!’

Assembling fibre-optic cable is next level

‘I love working with my hands and also like to work independently. Just like: Focus on and go! I work on both copper cabling and fibre-optic cabling. I enjoy both, but fibre-optic is more challenging. You have to work even more precisely, because if the fibre breaks or doesn't pass the test, you have to start all over again. And that sometimes means the cable is too short. By the way, when I was allowed to work on fibre-optic cable for the first time after about eighteen months, I found it quite exciting. That's really next level! Someone was sick, so Martin showed me step by step what to do. I then copied that exactly. Later I also took a course to assemble MTP connectors. These have several optical fibres in one small connector, so that’s even more difficult and precise. I then constantly check whether all fibres are positioned correctly and straight before gluing them in. During this kind of precision work, we as colleagues indicate that we can't have a nice chat for a while. But we can also just say that to each other.’

Challenge is important

‘I really enjoy learning new things or working on new projects. Sometimes not all the details are on the drawing and I have to find out for myself where I can best start and how I approach it. Then I write everything down, which is easier for the next order. That challenge is important to me, and I find it here.’
