“I worked for a furniture fabric supplier for a long time. It was enjoyable work, but the company went bankrupt in 2006. I thought, ‘What now?’ Then I saw an advert for MCAP in the local newspaper. I had no idea what the job involved and was amazed when I went for my interview.”
Copper and fibre-optic assemblies
‘In the early days, a lot did come my way, and I found it quite difficult. I kept wondering if I was doing it right. But owner Martin even asked me to take the step into assembling fibre-optics after a while. He trained me with a lot of patience. As a result, he said he would rather I asked a question ten times than not get it. Soon it was totally my thing and I wouldn't want anything else.’
“Later, I took a course on assembling MTP fibre-optic connectors. These connectors sometimes contain up to 12 delicate fibres that all have to be placed perfectly. Martin saw it as a nice challenge for me. He said, ‘Take your time, and it will all come together’.”
Enjoyable and varied work
“Nowadays, I work closely with Shirley on fibre-optic assembly, and we have a great time together. When she first started, I had the opportunity to train her. She also needed the confidence that she would learn the job, which was very familiar to me. By now, it’s really our thing, although we still regularly work on copper cables too. But that variety is what makes the job fun.”
Committed family business
‘All of us here at MCAP are completely different personalities, yet it works out well. We respect each other and know that we are doing our best for satisfied customers. Owners Martin, Corina and Niels think it's important that we have a good time together. They also try very hard to realize so. For instance, they’re always very attentive on birthdays and holidays.
