‘I found it super fun work, but didn't have that much peace in my body. That fidgeting didn't work out for me. Then Martin and Corina introduced me to a friendly cable assembly company. They process larger cables there, so that went perfectly. Meanwhile, I am a mother of two sons aged 22 and 19 and a lot calmer myself.’
Always busy
‘Still, I am always busy. If something is broken at home, I go out and investigate to see how I can fix it myself, for example on my bike. I enjoy fixing things like that myself. My husband is a truck driver and my two sons also have a show truck. Then, for example, if stickers need to be put on or extra lights connected, I do that. I enjoy doing that. In my spare time, I ride my own horse, a Friesian. That’s my best friend and just as crazy as I am. But when I braid his mane, I totally unwind. Taking care of and riding a horse teaches you a lot about yourself.’
Long-term workplace
‘When I came back here at MCAP, I was looking for a long-term workplace. Where I could stay until retirement. I did find that again here. I like it here. Nowadays, I have much more structure myself. You can see that in my workplace. The trays with materials are neatly arranged from small to large. But I am also very structured in my work now. I find it important to work beautifully, and that's good, because the bar is set very high here. It has to be perfect, but that's what I like about it.’
Qualities and characteristics
‘Here, we do the work that suits us. They look at what qualities and personal characteristics you have here. And now that fine work just suits me. There is no room for messing around. For me, that works therapeutically, but you have to know what you’re doing. For connectors with a lot of wires, I always look at how I can stick the wires in such a way that it looks nice. I don't like it when it gets messy, even though technically it might be well connected. When soldering, the tin also has to sink nicely into the product. That way, my work is never the same and it doesn't become monotonous.’
More than just production work
‘To process the cabling, we also use machines that we have to set up ourselves. That has to suit you, but I like that. Working at MCAP is more than just production work. Although the work is quite serious, we can sometimes have big fun together. But if someone needs to concentrate, we can just tell each other to be quiet for a while.’
Family feeling
‘MCAP is just a nice company to work for. Martin, Corina and Niels do a lot for their people. They are always there for you, and if you need to speak your mind, they offer a listening ear. They don't feel like bosses. And during the holidays we always find something nice at our workplace, like a giant Easter bunny. There really is that kind of family feeling here, which is why I always enjoy going to work.’
