I was a bit done with cleaning and wanted to discover something different. From my education, I was used to working creatively with my hands. When this vacancy came along, it actually appealed to me immediately.

After an initial conversation with Corina van Aperloo, a shadowing day followed. There, Sharnilah was immediately allowed to work on a simple order herself. “First, I received an explanation about the drawing, the contacts, and which tooling I needed to use. Then I just got to work. If I had any questions, I could always ask them. I immediately enjoyed trying it out.”

Increasingly independent

For example, Sharnilah had never soldered before. Her first attempts were a bit rough, but that changed quickly. “The more you do something, the better you get at it. At first, almost everything had to be set up for me, and I didn’t know how the machines worked. Now I can do more and more on my own. That saves a lot of time and also makes me feel good.”

She now works on a wide variety of projects, ranging from small cables with tiny contacts to larger cables to which various connectors are attached. She particularly enjoys the detailed work. “I like those tiny contacts because it’s really precision work. But I also enjoy working on a larger batch for a bit longer sometimes. That way, you get into a nice rhythm.”

Sometimes she even turns it into a little competition with herself. “You notice that you’re getting faster and faster. And what I especially like is that I have to ask for help less and less and can just do things on my own.”

Age doesn't matter

At 24, Sharnilah is one of the younger employees in the production department, but she hardly notices the age difference. “Everyone treats each other pretty much the same. From the very beginning, I’ve never felt like I didn’t belong. Everyone includes you and talks to one another.” This is also evident during breaks. Employees from different parts of the company sit together, and the Van Aperloo family joins in as well.

After nearly eight months, Sharnilah knows for sure that her decision turned out well. “I’m really enjoying myself here. I hope to be able to work here for a long time and learn a lot more.”

Are you detail-oriented, do you enjoy working with your hands, and do you like being able to work more and more independently? If so, a job at MCAP might be a good fit for you.
