What happens in the buildings of an industrial estate? Sometimes the name explains everything, but in many cases there is still something left to guess. This is also the case at MCAP Cable & Glassfiber Assemblies from Raamsdonksveer. The members of Business Club Amerstreek  trickle into the building at Bliek 16 one by one on Thursday evening 25 October. Shaking hands, the entrepreneurs from the three municipalities of Geertruidenberg, Drimmelen and Oosterhout gather to network during a company visit to the family business of Martin, Corina and Niels van Aperloo. A glass of champagne quenches the first thirst.

Home of different markets

During the presentation by Martin van Aperloo, and later by his son Niels, a few visitors already received a quarter here and there, but what exactly MCAP does in their industrial halls is not yet entirely clear to everyone. Okay, the company makes cables for medical and military applications and for industry and media companies. Very diverse, then.

When the people, divided into two groups, are given a tour of the different production halls, the eyes of the visitors open further and they are all impressed by MCAP's specialist work.

The only one in Europe

Father and son Van Aperloo tell the members of the BCA about the different applications of their copper cables and about the possibilities of glass fiber, which with a diameter of 125 micrometers is thinner than a human hair. The most notable project is KM3NeT, commissioned by Nikhef (National Institute for Subatomic Physics). For this, MCAP produces cables according to its own developed and secret production method for a super-telescope that can detect neutrino particles. These particles can tell us more about the origin of the universe, the Big Bang and other phenomena such as black holes.

Super-Telescope

This super-telescope consists of a network of cables and spheres with detectors and is located at a depth of 3 to 5 km below the water's surface. It has a size of one cubic kilometer. Due to its great scientific importance, the project is being followed worldwide by scientists. MCAP appears to be the only company in Europe that can handle this specialist work, and this gives the members of the BCA a different view of the modest Van Aperloo family.

Finished to perfection

The fact that MCAP always strives for a perfect finish is also apparent from the excellent buffet. Enjoying various meat and fish dishes, and a delicious dessert buffet, the BCA members have not stopped talking about what they have seen this evening. “I didn't know this was happening in here,” explains one of the businessmen from the region. “MCAP is such a great company.”
